Summary of Qualifications
I have twenty-six (26) years of teaching and research experience. I have ever been in Department of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University nine years, Department of Electrical Engineering, Tatung University nine years, and now I work in Department of Electrical Engineering of China Institute of Technology. I interest on a broad range of topics some about to multimedia signal processing, multimedia communications, and applications to digital camera, digital camcorder, digital home, multimedia indexing and retrieval, P2P IPTV, optical fiber, FTTH, and social network services. In image processing, my research topics include light flied acquisition, digital image stabilization, image quality improvement for LCD displays, color interpolation, auto white balance, and rolling shutter effect. In multimedia communication system design, we target the development of technologies for digital rights management, P2P content delivery, complex-aware live streaming, adaptive media playout, and video streaming over power line , optical fiber and wireless networks.
In recent years, I has been devoted to the academic research on digital modulation theories. By appropriately combining the signaling techniques of orthogonal multiplexing, orthogonal grouping, on-off keying, pulse amplitude signaling ,digital phase signaling, and digital optical signaling.
My current interesting research activities at CIT focus on the development of Transreflective TFT-LCDs (TR-LCDs) which have, in recent years, become a very important display technology for small to medium sized portable electronic devices such as cellular phones & digital cameras globally. The main advantage of TR-LCDs over the conventional transmissive-type TFT-LCDs is that the former is capable of displaying legible images under any illumination conditions, i.e. suitable for both indoor and outdoor usages. Due to the optical-path difference between the transmitted and reflected lights, many of today's high-optical-efficiency TR-LCDs are based on the rather complicated “double-cell-gap” structure, which requires a more demanding fabrication process control and hence often leads to lower production yields and higher manufacturing cost. Moreover, this structure exhibits other undesirable features such as unequal response time between transmitted and reflected images, reduced aperture and very often limited viewing-angle characteristics. Our research team at CIT thus focuses on developing new or novel designs of TR-LCDs which can allow a simpler structure, more cost-effective fabrication process and with good or improved optical properties.
